This channel is about surfboards. Everything that has to do with surfboards, and all the ancillary trappings that flow from surfboards. Be it shaping, technology, collecting, painting, shredding, cruising or any thing else. Nothing defines the surfer more than his (or her) surfboard. So much more than a tool, the surfboard is the philosophical icon, a sacred craft, a culturally pervasive symbol of freedom, adventure and enduring youth.
My name is Scott Bass and I am the former Online Editorial Director at SURFER Magazine. I currently produce The Boardroom International Surfboard Show (formerly Sacred Craft) each year. What did it sell for?
Shout out to JB! 1987 (?) Malibu...you paddled up to me as I was spinning on the shoulder fixin' to take off on a perfect head-high Malibu peeler when I heard that always polite Jamie Jedi voice "Hey Ken do you mind if I take this one?" but in my head I heard "These aren't the waves you"re looking for" Next thing I remember I was surfing left through the boneyard...Of all the waves I've surfed over the past 50 years it's that one Malibu right I gladly gave away (You heavily schralped it BTW) that I will always remember. You still have the 'Voice'. (Val Woodland Hills Crew.)

These guys were in my Sunshine Coast world of surfing as a teen 60's early 70's ... so it's wonderful to hear Bob talk about his past looking back from where he is now. In fact, sadly my custom Dick Brewer baby gun (we had lived NS first before moving to Oz) had to be cut down and reshaped by Hayden Kenny, due to getting too chewed by the rocks as no leashes back then. Great interview, thank you! Looking forward to Part 2!

This was really interesting, thank you. So good hearing about how things actually were and how things evolved from Bob. Over the years history has a way of being manipulated. Nice hearing that back in the day it wasn't us against them as some would have us believe. Just like minded obsessive mates experimenting and enjoying life.

@THEBOARDROOMSURFSHOW indeed, that's why I'm struggling with selling my dad's 1962 Santa Barbara Surf Shop Yater board. But I'm getting old, no children and someone who appreciates such things should save it.
The painting, the inlay work with abalone and the history, if that board didn’t bring in a million dollars I’d be disappointed and shocked.
For sure! With that level of artistry, abalone inlay, and historical value, anything less than a million dollars would be quite surprising!

what a coolio interview... i have 2 identical 7' 6" bat-tail quads that Ward created that are just complete shredders... i love those boards, along with other of Ward's boards..... i live 5 hrs. north of beautiful santa cruz, and for 15 years i would drive down to s.c. on every big swell to surf big middle peak ❤️ and while there, one of my most treasured experiences of many, was going to the sacred craft show every day it was there .... thank you guys.... roy.....

Greg Noll is an absolute icon to us all. Noll definitely pushed the boundaries of possibilities. The photo of him bottom turning that 11'4 gun was also featured in Longboard Magazine from the early 2000's as well as a story about him surfing some of the biggest waves in Hawaii. He will always be remembered as one of the best to ever set foot on a surfboard. Thank you for everything Greg.
